At the weekend, Christine and I visited three Flower Festivals. The first we visited was St Mary and the Holy Rood Church in Donington. This year, the theme is “Books We Love”. This is their 52nd Flower Festival. The Church has historic links to the Knights Templar, the world famous explorer Matthew Flinders and the 1st Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers. Year on year, the amazing flower arrangers never disappoint and create some absolutely wonderful displays.
After partaking of delicious cake and coffee, we made our way to St Laurence Church, Surfleet. This year, the theme is “Musicals”. The Glen Group website gives an insight into the intriguing leaning tower. It has a peal of twelve bells, is six feet four and a half inches out of perpendicular and is the most distinctive feature of the church. Again, the flower arrangers, created some wonderful displays.
Last, but by no means, least we visited The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Gosberton. This year the theme is “Lincolnshire Personalities”. Scott Dalton from BBC Radio Lincolnshire opened the event. The variety of the floral displays is amazing and the scent is absolutely lovely.
I was delighted to find a display dedicated to my hero “Margaret Thatcher”!!
Christine and I had a wonderful time visiting these Churches. Each of them are open until the 6th May 2018. It’s well worth a visit. Not only are there beautiful floral displays, you will also be able to enjoy browsing the second hand book stalls, arts and crafts and, of course, partake of some delicious food and drinks. You will be given an extremely warm welcome.
