DISTRICT COUNCIL ELECTION – 2ND MAY 2019

It’s that time again when District Councillors have to ask their Constituents for their jobs back.

I’ve been the District Councillor for the Ward of Moulton, Weston and Cowbit for over ten years and I have always tried my best to be a good Conservative Councillor.

On the 22nd March 2019 my nomination Papers were approved which means that I am now in a position to stand, once again, as the Conservative Candidate for the Ward of Moulton, Weston and Cowbit.

I’ve always taken my position of being your Councillor very seriously, and my attendance record at Council Meetings and Panels is very high.  In fact, over the last four years you could count the meetings I have missed on just one hand. The Attendance Register is available to the General Public on SHDC website – https://www.sholland.gov.uk/

The four years, when you voted me back to represent you has gone very fast.  During this time I have been on the Planning Committee, the Policy Monitoring Panel which checks all the policies the Council has made with a view to ensuring that the Council couldn’t have done better. From 2015 to 2017, I was Vice Chairman of SHDC and from 2017 to 2019 I was honoured to serve as the Chairman of SHDC.

During the last four years my wife, Christine, and I have travelled to the far corners of Lincolnshire and to neighbouring Counties promoting South Holland. I can assure you that there’s a lot more people now know about South Holland and what a beautiful place it is.

For three years, I have been the Chairman of my own Chairman’s Charity the Spalding WWII Memorial and with a very strong Committee meeting once a month, designed the Memorial, raised over £70,000, got the Memorial built in Ayscoughfee’s Peace Garden and managed to get His Royal Highness, The Duke of Kent KG, to come to Spalding to attend the Church Service of Dedication and officially open the Memorial. My proudest achievement for South Holland.

Like the rest of the people in South Holland, I am very frustrated with everything to do with Brexit.  I voted to leave like 17 million other people and, in my humble opinion, Westminster is not doing what the people of this great a Nation voted for. I can’t see a very good outcome now the process has been allowed to drift, but, hopefully, this will not affect the local District Election on the 2nd of May.

The Conservative Administration at SHDC has had a very challenging and difficult last fours but with good management we have managed to overcome our difficulties without cutting back on front line services.

  1. Council Tax continues to be of the lowest in the Country and South Holland is still one of the few Councils who still carry out weekly refuge collections.
  2. We have managed to secure millions of pounds of external funding for the South Holland economy.
  3. We continue to share senior managers with other Councils which saves money and assures front line services remain.
  4. We use our Ward Budgets very effectively to promote good causes in the Ward of Moulton Weston and Cowbit.
  5. We continue to promote a new business rate scheme to encourage new businesses to be part of the local economy.

If I am fortunate to be voted back as your Conservative Councillor, I will no longer wear the Chain of Office, but I will return to local politics and get more involved with local issues.

Can I take this opportunity of thanking you for voting me at the past three elections and I look forward to receiving your vote, once again, on the 2nd May 2019.
